Known use: Different parts of plants of the genus Dialium have been used in several African countries in folk medicine for the treatment of various diseases. In Nigeria, different extracts from Dialium guineense are used as a readily available moluscicide in the villages. In Benin and in Cameroon, traditional practitioners use the leaves and fruits of plants of the genus Dialium to treat waterborne parasitic diseases, fever and malaria. In West Africa, and particularly in Senegal, the fruits of Dialium species are eaten as food. The fruits are known to possess trypsin and chymotrypsin inhibitory properties, and antioxidant activities.
