Known use: The plant is used as a folkloric remedy for treatment of headache, chest complains, rheumatism, oedema, gonorrhoea, syphilis, rabies and it is also used as a remedy for fever, sickle cell anaemia, cough, ulcer, toothache, and worm infestation. In pharmacological studies C. edulis exhibited antiviral, anticonvulsant, antiplasmodial, antimicrobial, analgesic, diuretic, as well as hypoglycaemic activity.
